Abstract

Carrying out studies on elderly people requires constant updating and being carried out from different aspects: nursing, psychology, medicine, sociology. In aging, cognitive and auditory changes occur that can significantly affect quality of life. The objective of this work is to determine the cognitive capacity, hearing disability and confusion in the elderly belonging to a support program in Morelia, Michoacán. It is a quantitative research, with a descriptive, non-experimental and cross-sectional design. The Mini-Mental State Examination, the short version of the “Auditory Limitation Inventory for Adults” and the confusion assessment method were used. Among the main findings, it was found that 50 % of the participants had cognitive deficits; 52.20 % considered having a mild, moderate or significant hearing difficulty, and 23.8 % manifested acute confusional syndrome. The incidence that confusion, cognitive and auditory deficits have in the daily lives of older adults is an alert for health professionals and researchers. There is a need to generate and apply multidisciplinary interventions.
